Paula is one of our many students in our hackerspace of Cairo in Egypt. The 22-year-old, who is studying Engineering with Business Technology at university, decided to take our Artificial Intelligence course.
One of my friends convinced me to join GOMYCODE
I found out about GOMYCODE through one of my friends. He followed the training in video game development. He posted a picture on social media with a text praising the training here, it caught my attention. So I wanted to know more about GOMYCODE. I did some research on the web and on social networks. I found that it was a perfect fit for my aspirations. So I decided to sign up for the Artificial Intelligence training.
GOMYCODE? A real close-knit family
My first day went very well. In fact, I only speak English and I don't know Arabic or Egyptian very well. So I was a bit apprehensive about feeling excluded. However, this was not the case at all. Our instructor and the other students did everything to make me feel comfortable quickly, everyone spoke only in English to help me. I found that very touching and kind. That's really the spirit of GOMYCODE, a real close-knit family.
You don't find this mindset everywhere
What I liked the most here is really this open-minded, very friendly community where you feel at ease right away. What's great is that no one is judged on their background or social situation...we're all on the same level, all that is swept away. The team tries to make sure that all students are well integrated and that they don't lack for anything and just focus on their goals. This may seem like a natural thing to do, but you don't find this mindset everywhere. I also really liked the way our instructor was involved. He is always there with us, talking to everyone and motivating us. He goes above and beyond what is in the course curriculum. He always has a good tip, a good experience, good readings that he shares with us so that we can go beyond what is asked of us. It's really something unique.
Going beyond the traditional courses
If I had any advice to give to those who are hesitant to join GOMYCODE, it's that you shouldn't stop at what you're doing at the university. Take more specific courses or training that will give you other skills that will be useful in the job market and give you a better chance of success in your professional career. That’s what I made and I'm really proud of it.
